Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a Lock Bar style fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked with "Left" twice and two arrows. The elevation side is marked "UP BATTLE RANGE DOWN" with arrows.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The wood stock has a semi-pistol grip, metal nose caps, stacking loop, double sling loops, and a metal butt plate with hinged door for storage containing cleaning tools. The LOP measures 13". The wood has been sanded and refinished as well as cut away in several areas to show off the internal workings of the rifle. The rest of the wood shows some small compressions, nicks and lines. The right side of the stock towards the nose shows a small chip. There are no cracks. There are no cracks. The butt plate has been refinished and shows some worn checkering. The door spring is strong and functions correctly. Overall the wood is in Fine+ condition.

Overall Condition: The metal surfaces show some minor scattered finish loss and some minor handling marks. The action can still be cycled by hand and the rifle will feed and extract the dummy rounds. The springs are still functional, as are the trigger and safety. Overall this rifle is in Fine+ condition as a custom made cutaway rifle.

Our Assessment: This Winchester M1 Garand began life as a World War II service rifle manufactured in August 1943 by Winchester Repeating Arms Company, one of only two companies besides Springfield Armory to produce the M1 Garand during the war. Winchester Garands are highly desirable among collectors due to their relatively limited production and their important role in supplying American troops during World War II. This example was later fitted with a Springfield Armory barrel dated March 1945 and features the desirable lock bar rear sight, reflecting the types of updates and maintenance commonly seen on rifles that remained in military service.
What sets this rifle apart is its custom-made cutaway configuration, transforming a historic firearm into an educational display piece. Carefully machined openings allow the inner workings of the Garand to be viewed, including the operating system, gas system, sections of the barrel, and even an en bloc clip with dummy cartridges showing the rifle's feeding system. The rifle also retains the cleaning kit stored in the buttstock, adding another unique detail that demonstrates the complete design of the M1. Combining a desirable Winchester receiver with a well executed cutaway conversion, this rifle is a fascinating representation of John Garand's legendary design and provides a rare opportunity to see the engineering behind one of America's most famous military rifles.
