Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation u-notch screwed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, semi-pistol grip with semi-deluxe checkering,12-rib forend, and a smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate has light finish loss. The furniture shows old blemishes that have been sanded and finished over. The LOP measures 12.75" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There is a crack running from the upper and lower tang. The furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is very faint freckling towards the muzzle end of the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its nonoriginal metal finish. The finish shows edge wear, surface scratches, operational marks, and light pitting that has been finished over. The screw heads range from unmarred to lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. The markings are fairly clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Third Model Semi-Deluxe Grade 1890 was manufactured in 1916 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester, the Model 1890 was John Browning's highly successful slide-action rimfire design. The Semi-Deluxe Grade configuration features a slightly different checker pattern and standard grade wood, offering an interesting and more scarce variation.

Chambered in .22 Short with a 24 inch barrel, this rifle maintains the classic gallery and small game configuration that made the Model 1890 so widely used in the early 20th century. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5 out of 10, indicating excellent internal condition. The action functions correctly. It should be noted that the lower tang serial number has been force-matched.

This rifle retains approximately 85% of its nonoriginal metal finish, presenting a clean and cohesive appearance following refinishing. The refinished furniture rates in Very Good condition with attractive presentation. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition and stands as a desirable Third Model Semi-Deluxe Winchester 1890 with strong bore condition and uncommon configuration.
