Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation u-notch screwed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, straight-wrist grip,12-rib forend, and a smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate has some freckling and edge wear. The furniture shows scattered pressure dings and surface scratches. The LOP measures 12.75" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original, EXCEPT for two spots on the barrel that have cold blue

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its mostly original metal finish. The finish shows edge wear, a few light scratches, and operational wear. The screw heads are unmarred and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 90 3rd Model in .22 Short was likely assembled during the early 1940s as part of a factory parts cleanup effort and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester, the Model 1890 had a long production life, and during transitional periods it was not uncommon for parts manufactured in prior years to be assembled into completed rifles. In this case, the parts were likely produced in the 1930s and assembled in the early 1940s from remaining inventory.

Chambered in .22 Short with a 24 inch barrel, this slide action rimfire reflects the classic gallery and small game configuration that made the Model 90 so popular. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates a perfect 10 out of 10 with minimal visible wear. The action functions correctly. The metal finish is original, with the exception of two small areas on the barrel that show cold blue touch-up.

This rifle retains approximately 90% of its mostly original metal finish, presenting strong overall appearance. The furniture rates in Very Good condition with light handling wear consistent with age. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition and stands as an interesting parts-cleanup era Winchester Model 90 assembled from earlier production components.
