Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch screwed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, straight wrist grip,12-rib forend, and a smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate has pitting and surface scratches. The furniture shows pressure dings, drag lines, and surface scratches throughout. The LOP measures 12.75" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are two cracks running from the lower tang and one running from the upper tang. The furniture rates in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is grey and the rifling is worn. There is mild pitting throughout the bore. There is a faint squib ring near the muzzle end of the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 4/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about none of it's original finish as most has been scrubbed, faded to patina, turned to oxidation, or simply worn off from use. The metal shows scrub marks, pitting, dings, scratches, and patina. The screw heads show light tooling and retain turnable slots. The markings are fairly clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Fair condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Third Model 1890 was manufactured in 1915 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester, the Model 1890 was John Browning's highly successful slide-action rimfire design and remained in production for decades. The Third Model variation reflects refinements made during the rifle’s long production run.

Chambered in .22 WRF with a 24 inch barrel, this rifle represents one of the less commonly encountered chamberings in the Model 1890 line. The .22 Winchester Rimfire cartridge offered improved performance over earlier rimfire offerings during its era. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 4 out of 10, showing significant wear consistent with age and heavy use. The action functions correctly.

This rifle retains essentially none of its original finish, as most has been scrubbed, faded to patina, turned to oxidation, or simply worn off from use. The furniture rates in Good condition with visible handling wear but solid structure. Overall, this rifle rates in Fair condition and stands as a well-used example of a 1915 Winchester Third Model 1890 in .22 WRF.
