Sights/Optics: The front sight is a Lyman beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation v/u-notch screwed into the barrel. The top of the barrel is matted to reduce glare.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The deluxe grade furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, checkered semi-pistol wrist grip,12-rib forend, and a smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate has some oxidation and light wear. The furniture shows pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. The LOP measures 12.75" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There is a small crack running between the lower tang and the cap on the semi-pistol grip. The furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is grey and the rifling is worn. There is mild pitting throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 65% of it's original finish. The finish shows light fading, edge wear, freckling, and scratches. The screw heads show little to no tooling and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition as an antique.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester 2nd Model 1890 Deluxe Grade was manufactured in 1898 and qualifies as an Antique firearm. Produced by Winchester, the Model 1890 was John Browning's landmark slide-action rimfire design and remains one of the most collectible pump-action rifles of the late 19th century. This example is especially significant as a factory Deluxe Grade rifle. Accompanying documentation from the Cody Firearms Museum confirms it left the factory with Deluxe Grade features in addition to the receiver monogram, a matted barrel, and Lyman front sight.

Chambered in .22 WRF with a 24.375 inch barrel, this rifle represents one of the more desirable chamberings and configurations encountered in the Model 1890 line. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 5 out of 10, showing moderate to heavy wear consistent with age and use. The action functions correctly.

This rifle retains approximately 65% of its original finish, displaying honest wear while preserving much of its factory character. The furniture rates in Very Good condition with attractive presentation and solid structure. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition as an antique and stands as a documented factory Deluxe Grade Winchester 1890 with Cody Firearms Museum provenance, a combination that substantially enhances its collector appeal.
