Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a U-notch elevator sight dovetailed into the barrel. The receiver is grooved for an optic (none present).

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is a one piece wood with a straight comb and semi-pistol grip. The checkered black Winchester buttplate shows light wear. The wood shows moderate wear with pressure dings, scuffs, and nicks. Most notably is a ding in the left side of the forend. There are no chips or cracks. This furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is faint erosion and light spots of oxidation in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 80% of its metal finish. The finish is fairly strong showing scattered patina, light erosion, and general handling wear, more notable on the barrel forward of the forend. The screw heads show faint tooling and retain strong slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This rifle shows the clean mid century profile that defined the Model 77 line, with about 80 percent of its original blue finish remaining. The hardwood stock keeps the period correct lines that Winchester favored in the 1950s, giving the rifle a balanced and traditional sporting silhouette.

Mechanically, this example is solid. The bore rates 8 out of 10 with well defined rifling and good brightness, indicating a rifle that was used but not heavily worn. The action functions correctly, cycling with the reliable feel that made the Model 77 a popular semi automatic rimfire for recreational shooting, small game hunting, and youth training. Its simple blowback system and clean handling qualities remain evident in this example.
