Sights/Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a U-notch screwed into the barrel, adjustable for elevation.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished stocks are wood, the buttstock has a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, and checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. The buttplate shows light wear mostly on the edges. The furniture shows light wear with pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches throughout. The LOP measures 12 3/4" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. This furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There are small spots of occasional oxidation in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 75% of its metal finish. The blued finish shows scattered dings, scuffs, and patina throughout with most notable wear over the slide handle. The Nickel finish shows flaking and some oxidation on the right side above the trigger guard. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: A striking and increasingly scarce configuration, this Expert Grade Half-Nickel Model 1906 showcases the upgraded stock shaping and finer presentation of the Expert line paired with the eye-catching two-tone metal finish that set Half-Nickel rifles apart. The nickel-plated receiver frame contrasts cleanly with the blued barrel and magazine tube, and this example remains unusually well-preserved for its age, retaining about 75% of its original finish, far above what is typically encountered on 1910s pump-action rimfires. The wood retains the refined contours expected of Expert Grade furniture, giving the rifle an elegant early-20th-century sporting profile.

Produced in 1919, shortly after World War I, this rifle reflects Winchester's efforts to meet revived civilian demand for versatile, reliable rimfires during America's return to recreational shooting. The Model 1906's ability to chamber .22 Short, Long, and LR made it invaluable in an era of varied ammunition availability. The Expert Grade and Half-Nickel options were premium upgrades, ordered far less frequently, and surviving rifles with this degree of originality and condition represent some of the most desirable 1906 variations in today's collector market.
