Sights/Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation u-notch screwed into the barrel. The top tang is drilled, tapped and filled for a tang sight (none present).

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The rifle has a two-piece wood stock set, with a smooth semi-pistol grip and Expert Grade forearm, as well as a checkered black Winchester buttplate. The wood shows light handling wear and a few blemishes in the finish. Most notably is a ding on the left side of the stock near the buttplate and another on the opposite side in a similar location. There are no cracks or chips. The LOP measures 12.75" from the front of the trigger to the rear of the buttplate. The plate has even light wear with a more notable nick on the left edge, the checkering is well defined. The stock rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with the rifling is sharp. There is some minor erosion in the bore, mostly at the muzzle-end. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8/10.

Overall Condition: This firearm retains about 60% of its metal finish. The balance of finish shows moderate wear with scuffs and scratches, as well as patina throughout. A few of the screw heads show light tooling. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this firearm rates in Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1906, or Model 06 is one of Winchester's most popular early pump-action .22 rifles. Its takedown design, allowing easy separation of barrel and receiver assemblies, made it a practical choice for transport, storage, and maintenance. Chambered in .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle, it gave shooters maximum versatility for small-game hunting, pest control, and plinking.

This example, manufactured in 1920, has survived over a century with about 60% of its original blue finish and smooth mechanics. With its compact 20" barrel and classic Expert Grade forearm, this rifle represents the durability and design quality of pre-war Winchester rimfires. Collectors of vintage Winchester pump rifles will recognize this as a desirable and shootable C&R piece.
