Sights/Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation U-notch screwed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are Expert Grade wood, the buttstock has a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, and checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. The buttplate shows heavy wear and most of the checkering is worn down. The furniture shows moderate wear with open grain lines, pressure dings, and scuffs. The LOP measures 12 3/4" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. This furniture rates in Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Most finish is Original to the parts, the trigger assembly is not original to the receiver and the lower tang has been re-marked.

Bore Condition: The bore is dark and the rifling is very worn. There is heavy erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 4/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 0% of its metal finish as it has either worn off or turned to patina. The finish shows scattered dings, scuffs, and old spots of oxidation. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Good condition as not parts-original.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: A visually attractive, upgraded-stock version of Winchesters early slide-action rimfire, this rifle carries the Expert Grade furniture, which provides finer stock shaping, better wood contouring, and a more refined overall profile than the standard Model 1906. The compact 20" barrel keeps the rifle lively and easy to shoulder, while the exposed action bar, tubular magazine, and takedown receiver give it the classic mechanical rhythm that made the 1906 a staple of early American shooting.

The force-matched tang and early serial number is important to note for collectors, as it indicates the rifle is not factory-matching and more importantly, is not an Expert Grade 1906 despite the appearance. Even so, the rifle retains mechanical integrity and presents the distinctive look of an early pump-action Winchester with upgraded Expert-pattern furniture.

Made in 1912, this rifle hails from the early heyday of Winchester's rimfire slide-actions, when the Model 1906 was widely used for farm work, gallery shooting, training, and small-game hunting. Its ability to chamber .22 Short, Long, and LR made it indispensable when ammunition availability varied regionally. Expert-style furniture was an upgrade selected by shooters who wanted a more polished look and feel on an otherwise rugged, utilitarian rimfire platform. Even with heavy finish wear and a force-matched tang, this rifle remains a meaningful piece of early 20th-century Winchester history.
