Sights / Optics: The front sight is a metallic bead. The receiver is serrated for glare reduction.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece walnut with a semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, Winchester checkered hard rubber buttplate, 18-groove pump grip. There are a few minor handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 3/4" from the front of the trigger to the rear of the buttplate. Overall the stocks are in Fine-Plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There is no erosion. There is some minor wad fouling in the chamber and at the muzzle. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 90% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows faint operational wear. There is light intermittent oxidation and thinning on the leading edges, primarily on the receiver. There is some takedown wear on the edge of the receiver. The markings are clear. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 12, introduced in 1912, quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest pump action shotguns ever produced, prized for its strength, smooth operation, and forged steel construction. This 1927 manufactured takedown example reflects the mature production period of the Model 12, when Winchester’s fit, finish, and machining were at their peak. Fitted with a 30 inch barrel and fixed Full choke, it represents a classic long range field and target configuration commonly favored for waterfowl and trap use during the interwar years.

This shotgun retains approximately 90 percent of its original blued finish, with only faint operational wear and light edge thinning consistent with careful use. The bore is bright with no visible erosion and only minor wad fouling present, rating 9 out of 10. The walnut stocks remain in Fine Plus condition, showing only minor handling marks with no cracks or chips, and retain the correct Winchester checkered hard rubber buttplate and 18 groove pump handle. Markings are clear, screw heads remain sharp, and overall presentation is that of a well cared for, honest Model 12 that strongly reflects its era.
