Sights / Optics: There is a silver-colored bead at the muzzle. The top of the receiver is serrated for glare reduction.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece walnut with a post-war style grooved flat-bottom slide handle, semi-pistol grip, straight comb and checkered black hard rubber Winchester buttplate. There are minor storage marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 7/8" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has defined checkering. Overall, the stocks rate in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are a few light scratches. The action shows faint operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly and smoothly. This shotgun will slam-fire as designed. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a vintage post-war Winchester Model 42 standard grade .410 bore pump-action shotgun from 1960. The Model 42 was the first pump shotgun specifically designed for the .410 chambering and resembles its larger cousin the Model 12. Only 159,353 Model 42s were made. The gun is in Excellent condition, showing wear consistent with responsible storage over the last 70+ years. It would make a fine addition to any collection, especially if you have a new generation of shooters to train.
