Stock: The stock is marked with a circle “P” acceptance stamp on the grip, and on the left flank above the trigger is marked “WRA / GHD” for Col. Guy H. Drewry and Winchester Repeating Arms. It also has an ordnance wheel.
Barrel Length: 24"
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a Lock Bar style fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked with “Left” twice and two arrows. The elevation side is marked “UP BATTLE RANGE DOWN” with arrows.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The wood stock has a semi-pistol grip, metal nose cap, stacking loop, two sling loops, and a metal butt plate with hinged door for storage. The length of pull is 13”. The wood shows compressions, nicks, scratches and lines scattered throughout. There are several chips missing, notably the left side of the stock near the end of the receiver, the wrist and a large chip from the toe. The edges of the wood show several other small chips. There are no cracks. The butt plate has lost most of its finish showing rub wear around the edges and some discoloration from age. The checkering and the door spring are strong. Overall the stock set is in about Good+ condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion or pitting in the bore. The bore is very clean. According to our gauges the muzzle reads at 1+ almost 2 and the throat at about a 3+. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 75% of its metal finish. The gas cylinder is missing its finish. The muzzle, receiver, op-rod and trigger guard all show finish thinning mainly on the edges. The bolt and receiver show finish loss on the friction surfaces. The finish shows some discoloration and some brown spots from age. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester M1 Garand sold as a collector's grade rifle by the CMP in 2000 with a Win-13 receiver is a fascinating piece of military history and a particularly rare variant of this iconic rifle. Let's begin with the WIN-13 receiver. This receiver was produced by Winchester arguably by mistake in 1943 and then hidden away by Winchester to not overlap in serial number ranges with Springfield. Then for no apparent reason in January of 1945 despite producing M1 Garands in the 2.5 million serial block at the time Winchester decided to use the receivers they had produced in 1943 in the 1.6 million serial number block. Approximately 40 thousand of these receivers were produced. With this production decision came the necessity to create a new drawing number for this batch of receivers. This drawing number was “D28291WIN-13”. These receivers have come to be known as Dash 13s or Win-13 receivers. The limited number of Win-13 receivers combined with their historical significance as some of the last Winchester-made M1 Garands makes them highly collectible. This rifle also has the lock bar sight and GHD marked stock. The combination of its Win-13 receiver, CMP collector's grade certification, clear markings and unique sight makes this M1 Garand an appealing choice for both collectors and enthusiasts of historical firearms. It represents not just a functional weapon but a storied piece of American military heritage.
