Sights/Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation u-notch screwed into the barrel. The upper tang is drilled, tapped and filled, ready for mounting a sight.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The rifle has a refinished two-piece wood stock set, with a smooth semi-pistol grip and Expert Grade forearm, as well as a checkered black Winchester buttplate. The buttplate shows light wear and is flush to the wood. The wood shows light handling wear and a few blemishes in the finish. Most notably is a series of scratches on the bottom of the stock. There are no cracks or chips. The LOP measures 12.75" from the front of the trigger to the rear of the plate. The stock rates in Very Good condition.

Finish Originality: Original metal finish

Bore Condition: The bore is dull with the rifling showing some wear. There is mild erosion throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6.5/10.

Overall Condition: This firearm retains about 70% of its metal finish. The balance of finish shows moderate wear with scuffs and scratches, as well as scattered patina throughout. Most notable is a large section of patina atop the barrel around the rear sight and some freckling on the receiver. A few of the screw heads show light tooling. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this firearm rates in Good-plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1906, also known as the Model 06, was one of the company’s most successful early pump-action .22 rifles. Produced from 1906 through 1932, it was chambered for .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle, making it an extremely versatile rimfire. Its takedown design made transport and cleaning easy, and it quickly became a favorite for small-game hunters, farmers, and recreational shooters.

This example, manufactured in 1919, retains much of its original Winchester finish and has a muzzle adapter making it ready for the original Maxim suppressors. Configuration records are not available for this serial range, so we cannot be sure if this is a factory feature. For collectors of early Winchester pump rifles who also want a functional and practical shooter adaptable to modern suppressor use, this Model 1906 is a unique and desirable piece.
