Sights/Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation square-notch screwed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The Expert Grade furniture is two-piece wood, the buttstock has a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, and checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. The buttplate shows light wear around the edges. The furniture shows moderate wear with scattered pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. The LOP measures 12.75" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. This furniture rates in Very Good condition as refinished.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is fairly sharp. There is light oxidation and pitting throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its nonoriginal metal finish. The finish shows light handling and operational wear with scattered surface scratches, rub marks, and very infrequent freckles of oxidation. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain strong slots. The engravings on the receiver are not factory and are styled after the number 10 Winchester engraving pattern. The engravings are clean and tasteful. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Overall Condition: This rifle presents as an attractive, well executed example that has undergone thoughtful restoration and embellishment. Approximately 95% of a nonoriginal blue finish remains, applied evenly and presenting cleanly. The rifle retains matching numbered parts, an important point of integrity beneath the refinish. The furniture has been refinished and shows correct contours and a tidy, period appropriate appearance.

Of particular note are the tasteful non factory engravings on the receiver, executed in the style of the Winchester Number 10 engraving pattern. While not factory applied, the engraving is restrained and well proportioned, complementing the lines of the Model 1906 rather than overwhelming them. The overall effect is visually appealing and consistent with period Winchester aesthetics, even though it is non factory work.

Mechanically, the rifle functions correctly. The bore rates 6 out of 10, showing wear consistent with age and use. The action cycles smoothly with the characteristic pump stroke that made the Model 1906 a mainstay of early twentieth century American rimfire rifles.

Historically, the Model 1906 Expert Grade represents Winchester's refined slide action offering during a period when versatility and durability were paramount. A 1919 production example sits just after the First World War, when civilian demand for quality sporting arms surged. While this rifle is not in factory original finish and features non factory engraving, it remains an appealing and honest example that blends period style, mechanical correctness, and attractive presentation.
