Barrel Length: 20" Round.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade pinned to a raised block integral to the barrel. The bead has been removed. The rear sight is a ladder sight which presents a fixed u-notch when down and a sliding v-notch leaf when up marked out 0-20, dovetailed to the barrel.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece smooth walnut with straight grip, straight comb, steel carbine style buttplate, and banded forend. There is a saddle ring on the left side of the receiver. The stocks have been heavily sanded and refinished. There is a thin crack on the front right side of the forend near the bottom. There is a minor loss in the top left corner of the wrist at the receiver. The LOP measures 12 3/4" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall, the stocks are in about Good condition as refinished.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is minor discoloration in the muzzle. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its current metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light to mild handling wear. There are scattered scratches and light intermittent oxidation. There is some erosion under the new finish. There is a notable scratch on top of the barrel. The screw heads show signs of light tooling, but still have strong and serviceable slots. The pins are unmarred. The markings are legible though a bit shallow. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions properly. The hammer has a half-cock safety position. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine is a classic 1929 C&R lever-action chambered in the light and desirable .25-20 W.C.F. cartridge. It features a 20" round barrel, full-length magazine, saddle ring, carbine buttplate, and ladder rear sight, giving it the traditional SRC configuration.

The rifle is in Very Good condition as refinished, retaining about 95% of its current blue finish with light handling wear, scattered scratches, shallow but legible markings, and some erosion under the refinish. The refinished walnut stocks rate Good, with sanding, a small forend crack, and minor wrist loss. The bore is a strong point, bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, rating 9/10. The action functions properly with a crisp trigger, making this a nice-looking, shootable Winchester 1892 carbine with classic Old West appeal.
