Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a folding v-notch dovetailed into the barrel. A fully adjustable Lyman aperture is mounted to the left side of the receiver.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The customized and refinished furniture is two piece wood with a fluted comb, checkered semi-pistol grip, checkered forend, and a checkered horn buttplate. The buttplate has light handling and age-related wear. The furniture shows scattered pressure dings, drag lines, and surface scratches. The forend has several cracks. The LOP measures 14.5" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Finish Originality: Refinished barrel

Bore Condition: The bore is grey and the rifling is sharp. There are light patches of pitting scattered in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 65% of its nonoriginal metal finish. The finish shows edge wear, spots of thinning, surface scratches, and patina. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. The markings are worn, but legible. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This first year Winchester Model 1907 was manufactured in 1907 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester, the Model 1907 was one of Winchester's pioneering semi-automatic centerfire sporting rifles. Designed by Thomas Crossley Johnson, the rifle utilized a simple blowback action and was chambered for Winchester's proprietary .351 Self-Loading cartridge. First year examples are particularly desirable due to their historical significance as part of Winchester's earliest self-loading rifle production.

Chambered in .351 Self-Loading with a 20 inch barrel, this rifle reflects one of the most influential early semi-automatic sporting rifle designs. The furniture exhibits several non-factory customizations, including a checkered forend, checkered semi-pistol grip stock, fluted comb, horn buttplate, and grooved pistol grip cap. These modifications give the rifle a distinctive custom sporting appearance. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6 out of 10, showing moderate wear consistent with age and use. The action functions correctly.

This rifle retains approximately 65% of its nonoriginal metal finish, presenting a respectable appearance while showing evidence of refinishing. The furniture rates in Very Good condition with the custom features remaining well executed and visually appealing. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition and stands as an interesting first year Winchester Model 1907 enhanced with period-style custom sporting modifications.
