Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade pinned to a slotted block behind the barrel band. The rear sight is a ladder sight dovetailed to the barrel, which presents a fixed u-notch when down and a sliding u-notch leaf when up. The upper tang is drilled, tapped, and filled for a tang sight, none present.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are 2-piece smooth wood with a banded forend, straight grip, straight comb, saddle ring, and steel carbine-style buttplate. There are a few minor handling marks. There are no cracks. There is a chip in the comb at the buttplate. There is minor grain splitting at the top of the wrist behind the tang. The LOP measures 12 3/4" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall, the stocks rate in about Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There are a couple minor spots of erosion toward the muzzle end, but other than that the rest of the bore is pristine. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 8/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 80% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows mild handling and operational wear. There is thinning on the leading edges. There is light intermittent oxidation, primarily on the receiver. There is saddle ring wear which has introduced some fine pitting. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The hammer has a half-cock safety position. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1892 was John M. Browning’s compact counterpart to the larger Model 1886, developed as a stronger and more modern successor to the Model 1873 for Winchester’s established revolver-length cartridges. Produced in rifle, carbine, and musket configurations, the Model 1892 became renowned for its light weight, smooth operation, and exceptionally handy proportions. Chambered in the iconic .44 W.C.F., the compact 16-inch Trapper configuration brings together one of the model’s most desirable chamberings with the quick-handling qualities for which the ’92 remains celebrated.
This trapper carbine presents strongly, retaining about 80% of its original blue finish with attractive coverage remaining across the metal surfaces. The stocks remain solid and rate about Very Good, displaying only minor handling marks and a small chip at the comb. Its bore is bright with sharp rifling and only a couple minor spots of erosion near the muzzle, earning an 8/10 rating, while the action functions correctly with a crisp trigger. The forend measures slightly short, but the the fitment of the bands, sight, magtube, and barrel assembly all check out as an authentic trapper configuration. This will make a great addition to any Winchester or lever action collection.
