Sights/Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. A Leupold Vari-X 2-7 power scope is mounted to the receiver via Buehler bases. The duplex reticle is clear and the scope rates in Very Good condition.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is one piece skip-line checkered wood with a capped semi-pistol grip, cheekpiece, raised comb, tipped forend, and synthetic ventilated Weatherby buttpad. The buttpad has no notable wear and remains supple. The wood shows some minor pressure dings, drag lines, and light crazing. There is a swivel stud on the forend and another on the belly of the stock. LOP measures 13.5" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Very Good Plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. There is faint erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its original metal finish. There is some faint edge wear, some very minor scratches, a couple rub marks on the barrel, and a few very small oxidation spots. The screw heads show light tooling and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Weatherby Mark V is one of the most recognizable American sporting rifle designs of the modern era and was introduced in 1958 as Weatherby’s flagship rifle. Early Mark V rifles were manufactured in West Germany by J.P. Sauer & Sohn and featured the exceptionally strong nine-lug action that became the foundation of the Mark V platform. These rifles combined Weatherby’s distinctive styling with premium wood stocks, high-quality machining, and chamberings in powerful proprietary cartridges. This example, serial number 28500 with a serial-matching bolt, is an early left-handed West German Mark V chambered in .257 Weatherby Magnum and retains many desirable original features.
