Republic Studios boasted among its movie stars on contract in the 1940s and 1950s two stalwarts of the golden age of Westerns, “the singing cowboy” Gene Autry and “the Duke” himself, John Wayne. Republic produced dozens of Westerns during that period, with one of the most successful being “Rio Grande” in 1950, the last installment of John Ford’s Cavalry trilogy. This Vintage 1950s "Property Of Republic Studios" Hunter Colt 4.75" .22 SAA Movie Prop Holster & Belt Rig is in Good Condition, with all of the shell loops on the belt having torn away and been re-stitched at some point in the past, the back left 4 loops never having even been re-stitched, some drying and surface cracking along the left side of the belt where it’s been folded for decades, some scattered patina to the front buckle, some verdigris to the hardware on the holster, and with some scattered scratching, darkening, and age wear evident. Most interestingly, both the holster and belt are stamped at front with the circular “Property of Republic Studios / Hollywood, Ca.” mark, centered by their classic “soaring eagle” logo, only used from 1949-1959. The holster is crafted of tough brown leather with a purpose made open toe, stamped at the upper back with the classic “hunting horn” logo of its maker, the famous “HUNTER”, along with the model number “12”, and measures 3” wide across the top opening, and 8“ long down the straight side, making it ideal for a Colt .22 Frontier Scout Single Action Army revolver with a 4.75” barrel. Since that model was only introduced by Colt in 1957, this rig dates to the late 1950s. The belt is also constructed of tough brown leather, sports 18 sewn leather shell loops for .357 ammo along the back, and is stamped at the left front with the matching “hunting horn” logo of its maker, the famous “HUNTER”, along with the model number and size, “152-MED”. It measures about 41 1/2” long overall x 2 5/8” wide, bears a fully functional brass front buckle closure, and the set is a classic “Buscadero” fast draw rig.
