"Rain, wind, and weather, hell bent for leather...", so sang Frankie Lane in his classic 1958 cowboy ballad "Rawhide". Cowpunchers on cattle drives, during roundups, and riding fence at the turn of the 20th century wore rugged leather cuffs to protect their wrists from rope burns, thorns, and barbed wire. This pair of Vintage 1930s Old West Cowboy Horseshoe Design Brass Studded Black Leather Wrist Cuffs are in Very Good Condition, with some light scattered nicking and tearing around the top edge of each cuff, a small line of surface cracking at the upper back of one cuff, some scattered drying, scratching, and crazing throughout, some light overall stiffening and fragility, and with some scattered age wear evident. Most interestingly, they remain beautifully formed in the round, boast an incredible horseshoe design of circular silvered brass studs at front, with one rectangular stud at the top of each design, set off with matching rectangular silvered brass studs around the entire top and bottom edges, and sport three fully intact blackened metal rivets along the upper backs. The cuffs are unmarked as to their maker, carrying only the number “75” stamped at each upper back, though date to the 1930s, feature a brass “glove” snap closure at each lower back, and measure about 6 3/4" x 4". They bear high quality “rolled” brown leather edge piping around the bottom edges, and are a fine example of very rare, original Vintage 1930s Old West Cowboy Horseshoe Design Brass Studded Black Leather Wrist Cuffs.
