Sights / Optics: There is no provision for iron sights. The top of the receiver has a Browning-branded one-piece base with engraved 1" rings, the engraving has a gold-fill.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one-piece checkered fancy walnut with a flared pistol grip, rosewood capped nose & pistol grip with spacers, monte carlo comb with cheekpiece, two through bolts, and a Browning ventilated rubber recoil pad. The pistol grip has a diamond metal inlay and the checkered portions have foliate carving with light punch dots in the negative spaces. There are sling studs front and rear. The barrel channel is stamped 62921, indicating it is not original to the gun, the wood has not been tested for salt. There are cracks to each side of the trigger guard, extending back and up and then up and forward. The stock otherwise has only a few minor marks. The checkering remains generally well defined. The LOP measures approximately 13 1/2" from the front of the trigger to the back of the pad. The pad shows light wear, hardened slightly with age. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition as refinished and not original to the gun.

Type of Finish: Blue and Coin

Finish Originality: Original. Bolt, barrel and receiver are serial-matched.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, just a little stubborn copper fouling. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9+/10

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There is a little faint oxidation on the bolt knob. The action shows minor operational wear. The screw slots are sharp and the markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a spectacular Olympian Grade High-Power bolt action rifle from Browning built by FN on the renowned Mauser action. This is truly a beautiful specimen rating in about Fine condition with 97% of its finish remaining. The Olympian was the highest grade of the High Power line, featuring caliber-specific game scenes, carved deluxe stocks, and two-tone finish. This example was engraved and signed by two Master Engravers, Gaston Vandersmissen below the elk on the right chamber ring and Lilly Lambert on the floorplate's bear. The left ring has a moose with a mountain lion on the trigger guard. The engraving is just gorgeous, and a testament to their skill.

Made in 1969, this rifle was produced during the saltwood years, but shows no signs of erosion under the stock, which may have been replaced specifically to prevent such erosion. The stock has been refinished, possibly when fit to this gun, but is a proper Olympian grade with correct carving, checkering and caps. This is a great find for the Browning enthusiast and this rifle certainly belongs in any respectable Browning collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
