Sights/Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. A Redfield 3-9 power scope is mounted atop the receiver. The glass is clear and the scope rates in Very Good condition.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The custom aftermarket stock (consignor asserts it was made by E.C. Bishop & Son) is one piece wood with a cheekpiece, capped semi-pistol grip, and ventilated Pachmayr White Line buttpad. The buttpad has heavy handling wear and is cracking throughout. The furniture shows only some minor pressure dings and drag lines. The LOP measures 14.25" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Very Good Plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is light erosion throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its nonoriginal metal finish. The finish shows edge wear around the trigger guard, a couple small spots of oxidation on the barrel, and some minor scratches near the muzzle. The screw heads show light tooling and retain turnable slots. Many of the markings were wiped when refinished. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Model 1917 Enfield was one of the principal U.S. service rifles of the First World War, with production undertaken by Remington, Winchester, and the Eddystone. Based on the British Pattern 1914 Enfield design, the U.S. Model 1917 was adapted for the .30-06 Springfield cartridge and featured a strong bolt-action design with a controlled-round-feed system and five-round internal magazine. Remington produced the largest number of Model 1917 rifles during World War I, with production beginning in 1917. This example, serial number 11800, is a Remington-produced Model 1917 that has since been converted into a sporting rifle configuration with a custom aftermarket stock and Redfield scope.

This rifle retains about 96% of its nonoriginal blued finish, showing edge wear around the trigger guard, minor oxidation spots on the barrel, and light scratches near the muzzle. The custom wood stock, attributed by the consignor to E.C.
