Markings: The right side of the receiver is marked with the IDF crest and, “7.62 MAKLEON No.1 TYPE A” in Hebrew with a number, “74993” on the magwell and, “S.B.L. INDUSTRIES - MADE IN ISRAEL / ARMSCORP OF AMERICA, INC SILVER SPRINGS MD 002134”. There are various Israeli proofs throughout.

 Barrel Length: 21” Approximate. 25” with muzzle device.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is an adjustable post set between two protective ears. The rear sight is a sliding aperture sight marked to 7.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a three piece wood Israeli Makleon set with a folding steel shoulder rest over a steel buttplate, sling loop, dropped comb, polymer pistol grip, ribbed carry handle, and a ribbed clamshell handguard with a sheet metal heat shield. There are light pressure dents and scratches throughout. The pistol grip has some scuffs. There are no chips or cracks. The barrel has a folding bipod fixed to the muzzle device. The LOP measures 13.75” and 14” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate and shoulder piece respectively.  Overall, the stock set is in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is sharp. There is light erosion in the bore with some moderate stubborn fouling. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 8/10.

Overall Condition:  This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. There are light handling marks throughout with some scattered pricks of rust. The screw heads are sharp and the pins are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition. 

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Israeli Makleon FAL-O, produced by S.B.L. Industries and imported by Armscorp, is a rare and collectible variant of the FN FAL lineage, built to the specific needs and doctrine of the Israeli Defense Forces. Known for its use during the formative years of the IDF through multiple conflicts, including the Six-Day War and Yom Kippur War, the Makleon variant represents Israel’s domestic production of the classic FAL pattern. The IDF opted for robust wood furniture and a heavy-profile barrel to suit desert conditions and the squad automatic role. This Type A model features the iconic Hebrew rollmarks, an IDF crest on the receiver, and the distinctive Israeli-style clamshell handguard with heat shield, carry handle, and bipod—details that make it stand out among FAL collectors and military arms enthusiasts. This example is in well-preserved condition, retaining about 95% of its parkerized finish with light handling wear and only minor surface oxidation visible. The original wood furniture has held up nicely with only modest pressure dents and scuffs, but no cracks or major flaws. The folding shoulder rest, Israeli pattern pistol grip, and ribbed handguard complete the correct military aesthetic. The bore remains sharp with good rifling, showing only light erosion and some stubborn fouling. This Makleon is complete with an original 20-round metric magazine and bipod, making it not only functional but also correct and compelling from a historical and collector standpoint.

Israeli FAL variants have always held a special place in Cold War firearms collecting, and this Makleon is no exception. Its unique combination of Israeli manufacture, Hebrew markings, and IDF-specific features distinguish it from the more common Belgian or Argentine examples.
