Sights/Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramped blade integral to a base, fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a square-notch leaf in a base pinned to the top strap and is adjustable for elevation and windage.

Stock Configuration and Condition: The grips are two piece smooth walnut panels with silver Ruger medallions inset into either side. There is little to no handling wear. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips rate in about Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish is strong. There is little to no operational or handling wear. There is very faint thinning on the leading edges. There is no notable turn line. There are minor spots of finish loss around the cylinder. There is old grease on the sides of the hammer and in the action. The screw heads are sharp and the pins undamaged. The markings are clear. This revolver is in overall Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions as intended. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The .30 Carbine Blackhawk was one of the more unusual chamberings offered in Ruger's early single-action line. Introduced in 1968, it adapted the military .30 Carbine cartridge to a long-barreled sixgun and was produced in Old Model form for only a few years before Ruger's transition to the New Model action. With its 7 1/2" barrel, adjustable sights, and traditional three-screw lockwork, these early .30 Carbine Blackhawks occupy a distinctive niche among collectors of vintage Ruger single actions.

This 1970 example is exceptionally well preserved, retaining approximately 98% of its original finish with excellent walnut grips and a bright 10/10 bore. The action functions correctly, and the revolver is accompanied by its factory box, owner's manual, and paperwork. The combination of high condition, original packaging, desirable three-screw configuration, and the comparatively short-lived .30 Carbine chambering makes this an especially appealing Old Model Blackhawk for the Ruger collector.
