Sights/Optics: The front sight is a hooded post atop a serrated ramp banded around the barrel. The front sight is slightly clocked to the left of center. The rear sight is a u-notch leaf sight with adjustments for 25, 50, and 100 meters. The receiver is grooved for an optic, though none is present.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The one piece wood stock has a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, grooved forend, and a metal buttplate. There is a small spring loaded gate in the butt where a tool cleaning kit would be located, but it is no longer present. There is moderate wear present with pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. The LOP measures 14" from the face of the trigger to the rear of the butt. Most notable are two nicks on the bottom of the forend and a ding on the left side of the stock above the magazine. There are no cracks present. Overall the furniture is in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 94% of its metal finish. The finish is strong, showing occasional blemishes and light spots of finish wear. The front sight assembly and trigger guard show the majority of the wear. The markings were not stamped evenly, and some are poorly struck. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good to Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This rifle presents in very strong overall condition, retaining approximately 94% of its original finish. The metal surfaces show even coverage with light handling wear consistent with careful use, and the rifle retains matching serialized parts, an important point of correctness for these Eastern Bloc training rifles. The long 23.25" barrel gives the rifle its characteristic full length military trainer profile and an excellent sight radius, contributing to steady handling and deliberate shooting.

Mechanically, the rifle is excellent. The bore rates 9.5 out of 10 with bright steel and sharp rifling, indicating minimal use. The action functions correctly with smooth bolt operation and positive lockup. The M69 is well known for its solid construction, simple design, and consistent accuracy, qualities that made it a widely issued military and youth training rifle in Romania and other Warsaw Pact aligned programs.

Historically, the M69 represents Cold War era small arms training doctrine, where .22 LR rifles were used extensively to teach fundamentals of marksmanship before transitioning soldiers to full power service rifles. Produced in large numbers during the 1960s and 1970s, these rifles are respected today for their durability and surprising accuracy. A 1974 example with matching numbers, strong finish, and an excellent bore stands as a particularly desirable and well preserved example of this iconic military trainer.
