Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded post dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation u-notch dovetailed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece wood stock has a straight wrist grip and a serrated synthetic buttplate. There is very light wear with only a few small dings around the wrist. The LOP measures 13" from the face of the trigger to the rear of the butt. There are no chips or cracks. Overall the furniture is in Fine+ to Excellent overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blued and case color

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The barrel shows light scratches on the left side of the barrel and some small scattered spots of oxidation. The receiver finish is strong with minimal blemishes. The lever has only light freckling. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a very high condition example of the Savage made Stevens Crackshot single shot, retaining approximately 98% of its original finish. The metal surfaces are clean and even with only light handling evidence, and the stock presents sharp lines and finish consistent with careful ownership. The classic Crackshot profile remains intact, with the simple, compact lines that made this model a favorite for training and recreational shooting.

Mechanically, the rifle is excellent. The bore rates a full 10 out of 10 with bright steel and sharp rifling, indicating little to no use. The action functions correctly, opening and closing smoothly with the straightforward, positive operation that has long defined the Crackshot design. The 22" barrel provides a balanced sporting profile and a useful sight radius for deliberate, accurate shooting.

Historically, the Model 72 represents the continuation of the Stevens Crackshot lineage into the late twentieth century, preserving the simplicity and reliability of the original design while benefiting from modern manufacturing. Chambered to accept .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle, it offers the same versatility that made earlier Crackshot models staples of American shooting culture for generations. In this level of condition, this example stands as a clean, well preserved representative of the final era of Stevens single shot rimfire production.
