Sights/Optics: The front sight is a rotating D.W. King sight. The sight appears to be modified and will rotate freely. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation u-notch dovetailed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, straight wrist grip, smooth forend, and a smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate shows moderate handling wear. The furniture shows scattered pressure dings, surface scratches, and drag lines. The LOP measures 13.5" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There is a crack running from the upper tang and on the right side of the forend. The furniture rates in Good to Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is grey and the rifling is worn. There is mild erosion and pitting throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 15% of its original metal finish. The metal shows extensive finish loss, oxidation spots, edge wear, and scratches. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Remington Model 16 was manufactured between 1911 and 1920 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic firearm. Produced by Remington, the Model 16 was designed as a lightweight semi-automatic sporting rifle chambered for the proprietary .22 Remington Automatic cartridge. Introduced during the transition from black powder to smokeless powder rimfire ammunition, the .22 Remington Automatic cartridge was developed specifically to prevent the use of older black powder .22 rimfire cartridges in semi-automatic firearms. The Model 16 is an uncommon and historically significant early Remington autoloading rimfire.

Chambered in .22 Remington Automatic with a 22 inch barrel, this semi-automatic takedown rifle was designed for small game hunting and recreational shooting. Its takedown feature allows the rifle to be quickly separated for convenient transport and storage. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 5 out of 10, showing moderate to heavy wear with visible rifling remaining. The action functions correctly.

The furniture rates in Good to Very Good condition with honest handling wear consistent with its age.
