Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “-MODEL 62-WINCHESTER- / TRADE MARK-”, “.22 S L. OR L.R.-”. The bottom of the receiver is marked “6078”. The right side of the barrel is marked “MADE IN U.S.A. WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. / –NEW HAVEN.CONN. –”. The bottom tang is marked “6078”. The top of the barrel and receiver are marked with Winchester WP proofs. The top tang is marked “WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK / MADE IN U.S.A.”.

Barrel Length: 23” round barrel

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch elevator sight dovetailed to the barrel. The top tang is drilled, tapped, and filled for a tang sight (none present).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece walnut with round 10-groove pump grip, straight wrist, straight comb, and checkered steel buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. There is mild handling wear. There is scattered finish loss. The LOP measures 13 1/8” from the front of the trigger to the rear of the buttplate. Overall, the stocks rate in Fine condition.

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about none of its original finish. This rifle has been treated with cold blue. Most of the finish shows mottled light gray patina. The action shows light operation wear on the magtube and action bar. There is thinning on the leading edges. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements. There is a takedown screw on the left side of the frame.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 62 was the successor to the Model 1906 and represents one of the most iconic American pump-action rimfire rifles of the 20th century. This particular rifle was made in 1932 during the earliest days of production and is chambered in .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle, making it a versatile and classic small game or plinking rifle. It features the early-style 10-groove round pump handle and a drilled-and-tapped tang for an auxiliary sight. Though its original finish has long since faded, it has been treated with cold blue for preservation and shows uniform light patina throughout. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling, rating a solid 9/10, and the stocks show honest use with only light wear and no structural damage. This example is mechanically sound, retains strong markings, and functions as intended. For collectors of classic American rimfires or fans of early Winchester slide-action designs, this early Model 62 offers authentic charm and shootable quality in a C&R-eligible package.
