Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade integral to a serrated, ramped base screwed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch adjustable for windage and elevation in a base dovetailed to the slide. The front sight blade has been re-profiled with a slight taper and the sights are not original to the gun.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece contoured, checkered brown plastic with “Hi-Standard" eagle medallions. The grips have a few scattered minor nicks and scratches with some minor scuffing. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Very Good-Fine condition.

Type of Finish: Blue, Black Alloy Slide

Finish Originality: Original, the slide is serial-matching.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright, the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, just a little stubborn fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9+/10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 90% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at some edges. There is wear along each side of the barrel, more notable on the right. There are some light nicks and scratches. There is some minor scuffing on the slide. The grip areas show minor handling wear. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a single 10-round .22 Short Hi-Standard magazine.

Our Assessment: The Hi-Standard Flite King is a field pistol developed as a companion to the Sport King, but with an alloy slide allowing the use of the lower-recoil .22 Short cartridge. Introduced in the 101 Series, the last iteration of the model was the 103 Series. Customers who wanted a field gun typically would simply purchase a Sport King chambered for the more common .22 Long Rifle, while those looking for a .22 Short for target shooting would typically select one of Hi-Standard's models designed for competition. As a result, sales were limited and the model would not continue into the 104 Series.

This example, with its 6 3/4” barrel, has been equipped with target sights, making it more suitable for smallbore competition. The classic lines, excellent bore, and original finish make it an attractive piece for collectors or enthusiasts seeking a reliable and accurate rimfire pistol.
