Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a v-notch without the elevation adjustment piece dovetailed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, smooth semi-pistol grip, smooth forend, and a no buttplate. The buttstock is a homemade replacement. The stock and forend have some play. The forend is missing a screw. The furniture has pressure dings scuffs and scratches. The LOP measures 13.5" from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt. There is cracking on the bottom of the forend. There is a chip at the heel. The top rear of the buttstock has a large scuff. The furniture rates in Poor to Fair condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is grey and the rifling is worn. There is mild pitting throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 60% of its original finish. The finish shows edge wear, patina, rub marks through the finish, scratches, and oxidation spots. The screw heads are moderately tooled and retain turnable slots. The markings are fairly clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Poor to Fair condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This first year Remington Model 24 was manufactured in 1922 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Remington, the Model 24 was based on John M. Browning's innovative takedown semi-automatic rimfire design, originally introduced by FN in Europe. It became the first long gun manufactured by Remington from a Browning design and established the foundation for later rifles such as the Model 241. First year production examples hold added historical significance for collectors.

Chambered in .22 Short with a 19 inch barrel, this semi-automatic rifle reflects the compact sporting configuration popular during the early 20th century. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 5 out of 10, showing wear consistent with age and use. The action functions correctly.
