Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade, dovetailed to the barrel. The rear is a square notched leaf dovetailed to the rear of the barrel adjustable for elevation with a ratchet wheel, known as a "wheel sight". The top of the receiver is scope grooved.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are gloss-finished checkered walnut with a semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, and serrated steel buttplate. There are a few scattered compressions, surface dents, and handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is crisp with light peak wear. The LOP measures 13 3/4" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall, the stocks rate in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows some very infrequent handling marks. There is little to no operational wear. The screw heads have sharp slots which are faintly tool marked. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This early Belgian FN Browning SA-22 Grade III rifle reflects the refined sporting arms tradition that John M. Browning envisioned when the design was introduced in the early 20th century. Manufactured in Belgium and chambered in .22 Long Rifle, the SA-22 became renowned for its elegant takedown system, smooth semi-automatic operation, and exceptional balance. Condition is outstanding, with the rifle retaining nearly all of its original factory blue finish and showing only minimal handling evidence. The bore is pristine with sharp rifling, and the action functions correctly, reflecting careful ownership. The checkered walnut stock remains crisp and attractive with only light surface marks, and the engraved receiver surfaces remain sharp and well defined. Overall, this is a high condition, early Belgian Grade III SA-22 that exemplifies the quality, craftsmanship, and understated elegance that have made these rifles enduringly desirable.
