Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a v-notch elevator sight screwed to a base dovetailed into the barrel. The receiver is grooved for an optic, none present.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece wood furniture has a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, 15-groove forend, and a smooth metal buttplate with engravings. There is moderate wear present with pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. The LOP measures 13.5" from the face of the trigger to the rear of the butt. Most notable is minor cracking and discoloration at the heel. Overall the furniture is in Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Refinished at time of engraving.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its nonoriginal metal finish. The finish shows a few minor blemishes and light finish loss where the forend rubs while cycling the action. Some of the old blemishes are visible under the current finish. The custom engravings present cleanly and look good. The screw heads show minimal tooling and retain strong slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is an exceptionally attractive example of Browning's classic pump action rimfire that has been custom engraved and refinished. Approximately 98% of a nonoriginal finish remains, applied evenly and presenting very cleanly. The rifle retains matching serialized parts, an important point of integrity beneath the refinish. The engraving is non factory, which is clearly disclosed, but it is tastefully executed and complements the lines of the Trombone extremely well, giving the rifle strong visual presence and elevated presentation.

Mechanically, the rifle is outstanding. The bore is in great shape and the action functions correctly, delivering the smooth, refined pump stroke for which the Browning Trombone is renowned. Cycling is consistent and positive, reflecting the high quality of FN manufacture.

Historically, the Browning Trombone occupies a premium position among pump action rimfires, valued for superior fit, finish, and exceptionally smooth operation. While this example is no longer in factory original finish and features non factory engraving, it stands as a well executed custom rifle that blends classic FN Browning quality with tasteful artistic enhancement. With excellent mechanical condition, perfect bore, matching parts, and strong overall presentation, this Trombone offers both shooter appeal and distinctive collector interest.
