Sights/Optics: The front sight is a black serrated ramped blade soldered to the barrel after it was shortened. The Micro Sight Co. rear sight is a black square-notch in a base pinned to the flat top-strap and is adjustable for elevation and windage.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two piece smooth wood panels with Ruger medallions inset into either side. The panels shows some light pressure dings and surface scratches. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips rate in about Very Good Plus condition.
Type of Finish: Blued with a with black alloy grip frame
Finish Originality: Refinished
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This firearm retains about 95% of its nonoriginal metal finish. The finish shows a faint turn line, holster wear, light edge wear, and some light surface scratches. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this firearm rates in Fine condition.
Mechanics: Each cylinder has just minor play at each stop. A transfer bar has NOT been installed. The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This custom Ruger Blackhawk was manufactured in 1960 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic firearm. Produced by Sturm, Ruger & Co., the original Blackhawk was introduced in 1956 as Ruger's answer to the revolutionary .44 Remington Magnum cartridge. Early "pre-warning" revolvers, manufactured before Ruger added the safety warning roll mark to the barrel, are among the most collectible Blackhawks due to their classic styling and traditional three-screw action. This example has been customized while retaining the desirable features of an early Flat-Top revolver.
Chambered in .44 Magnum, this revolver now features a 5.2 inch barrel that has been cut down from its original length and recrowned for continued accuracy. It is also equipped with a desirable Micro Sight Co. adjustable rear sight, a respected period aftermarket upgrade favored by target shooters and handgun hunters. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5 out of 10, indicating excellent internal condition with strong rifling. The action functions correctly.
The grips rate in Very Good Plus condition with light handling wear. This revolver retains approximately 95% of its non-original metal finish, presenting very well despite the refinishing. The shortened barrel and refinish create a practical and attractive custom revolver with classic styling. Overall, this firearm rates in Fine condition and represents an appealing early Ruger Flat-Top Blackhawk that blends desirable pre-warning features with tasteful period customizations.
