Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation square-notch screwed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, checkered semi-pistol grip,12-rib forend, and a smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate has faint handling wear. The furniture shows pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. The LOP measures 12.75" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There is a small crack running from the upper and lower tang. A small chip has been taken from the semi pistol grip cap. The furniture rates in Good condition.

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. There is light oxidation at the muzzle and light spots of pitting scattered throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 92% of it's nonoriginal finish. The finish shows light operational wear with some scratches and tool marks on the lower tang. The screw heads range from unmarred to lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. The engravings are not original and are styled after the Winchester number 8 engraving pattern. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This custom engraved Winchester Third Model 1890 Deluxe Grade was manufactured circa 1927 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester, the Model 1890 is one of the most successful and enduring slide-action rimfire rifles ever produced. Designed by John M. Browning, the Model 1890 became a favorite among gallery shooters, small game hunters, and recreational marksmen due to its smooth operation and exceptional reliability.

Chambered in .22 Long Rifle with a 24 inch barrel, this rifle reflects the later Third Model configuration of the famous Model 1890. The rifle has been custom engraved in a style inspired by Winchester's No. 8 factory engraving pattern; however, the engraving is not factory original. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6.5 out of 10, indicating moderate wear consistent with age and use. The action functions correctly.

The furniture rates in Good condition with handling wear appropriate for its age. This rifle retains approximately 92% of its nonoriginal metal finish, presenting an attractive overall appearance as a refinished example. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition as refinished and stands as a visually striking custom interpretation of a Winchester Model 1890 Deluxe Grade.
