Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation v/u-notch screwed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a custom made deluxe grade replacement. The furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, checkered semi-pistol grip,12-rib forend, and a smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate has only some light oxidation. The furniture shows only faint wear on the forend, the stock is impeccable. The LOP measures 12.75" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp with stubborn fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of it's nonoriginal finish. The finish shows no notable blemishes other than a minor ding on the face of the muzzle. The screw heads show no tooling and retain turnable slots. The markings are a bit shallow, but clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Excellent condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This custom Winchester Third Model 1890 Deluxe Grade style rifle was manufactured between 1933 and 1949 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic firearm. Produced by Winchester, the Model 1890 was John Browning's iconic slide-action rimfire design and remained in production for decades. This example has been fitted with a nonoriginal replacement deluxe grade stock, resulting in a highly attractive presentation while departing from original factory configuration.

Chambered in .22 WRF with a 24 inch barrel, this rifle reflects one of the more desirable chamberings offered in the Model 1890 line. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5 out of 10, indicating excellent internal condition. The action functions correctly.

This rifle retains approximately 99% of its nonoriginal finish, presenting in exceptionally clean condition. The custom furniture and refinished metalwork combine to create a striking overall appearance. Overall, this rifle rates in Excellent condition as refinished and stands as a visually impressive custom Winchester 1890 in the desirable Deluxe Grade configuration.
