Cigar and pipe smoking, much like enjoying a brandy or a good book, are civilized, gentlemanly pursuits, meant to be enjoyed in relaxation in the comfort and privacy of one’s own home. In the early days before the Second World War, many American clothiers produced elegant smoking jackets of wool with rolled collars, pocket and cuff facings, and rayon soutache. This Antique 1920s 1930s Desmond's Los Angeles Burgundy & Navy Wool Smoking Jacket is in Very Good Condition, with some scattered spot mothing along the front hem, a very small moth hole in the upper left back, missing most of the weaving from the maker’s label at the inside neck, though the tailor’s name still remains legible, and with some scattered spot soiling and age wear evident. Most interestingly, it measures to about a Size 38 chest, boasts a navy blue wool body, with a patterned burgundy wool lining on the roll collar, cuff facings, and interior, and carries the original tailor’s label of the famous “Desmond’s / LOS ANGELES” sewn to the black satin neck lining. It features an open top “cigarette” left chest pocket, along with open top front hem patch pockets, sports green soutache and burgundy cord rope accents around the collar, cuffs, and pocket facings, and features two “French knot” cord loop closures at each side of the front placket.
