Stock: The grip is marled with a circle “P” acceptance stamp. The left flank has a faint DOD cartouche.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The wood stock has a traditional Semi-pistol grip, metal nose caps, two sling loops, stacking ring, and a checkered metal buttplate with storage compartment. The LOP measures 13” inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The wood on this rifle has been sanded and refinished. The wood shows compressions, minor nicks and minor surface level lines scattered throughout. There are no visible cracks in the wood. The butt plate has been refinished and shows previous wear and signs of use under the refinish. The door functions correctly and has a strong spring. Overall the stock set is in Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Refinished.

Bore Condition: The bore is very bright with well defined rifling. There is no visible pitting. Our gauges show a muzzle of 2 and a throat of 4 In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: The rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The friction surfaces of the bolt and receiver show very little wear. The metal surfaces do show some very minor surface level lines scattered throughout. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in Very Good+ condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a cardboard box, front sight cover, and paperwork.

Our Assessment: This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was produced in November 1943, during the peak of World War II production. It retains all Springfield-correct parts, making it a desirable example of a wartime configuration. The barrel is dated 11-53 and also Springfield Armory, indicating a postwar re-barrel while keeping within correct specifications for military service rifles. The bevel mark “0-66” suggests additional inspection or rebuild associated with later maintenance or upgrades.

What makes this rifle truly stand out is its interesting provenance. Rather than being just another arsenal-maintained Garand, it served as the 2nd place trophy for the 2008 Navy Fleet Marksmanship Match. Accompanied by official paperwork from match director Lt. Cmdr.
