Sights / Optics: The front sight is a short blade integral to the front of the slide. The rear sight is a "U"-notch dovetailed into the slide. The top of the slide has a thin rib that has fine wavy serrations to reduce glare.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered black plastic with Walther banner logos at their tops. The left screw escutcheon turns in the grip when the screw is turned. The grips show even light-moderate handling wear. There are scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. The checkering is generally well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original. The slide and frame are serial-matching.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright with sharp rifling. There is scattered light erosion and some stubborn fouling in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates about 7/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 20% of its metal finish. Strongest remaining finish is in the frame flats above the grip area. There is some other scattered remaining finish in protected areas and around raised features. There is notable wear at the top-rear of the slide. Other surfaces show more even wear and surface oxidation with infrequent surface erosion. There are scattered nicks and scuffs. The action shows operational wear. The screw head is tool marked with a usable slot, the left escutcheon turns in the grip when the screw is turned. The markings range from clear to worn and incomplete. Mechanics: The decocker lever does not drop the hammer. Otherwise, the action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a single 8-round Walther magazine with pinky-extension floorplate.

Our Assessment: The Walther PP, or Polizeipistole, was introduced in 1929 and found great success both commercially and with law enforcement agencies. With the outbreak of WWII, the German military found that its huge demand for sidearms could not be filled only with P38 and Luger pistols, orders for a variety of other models would be placed and the Walther PP was among them. This example is a wartime PP, made in 1942 and with WaA359 military inspection marks. Given the year it was made and what Germany saw in the following years, it is in decent shape, retaining some original finish and a better bore than the exterior would suggest. The decocker does not function, but this would still make a neat display in a Walther or WWII era pistol collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
