Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The wooden two piece stock features a forend cap, barrel band, front and rear sling rings on the bottom and left side, spliced-on forend, finger grooves, and smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate has heavy handling wear. The furniture shows pressure dings, drag lines, scuffs, and scratches. The LOP is 13.75" from the face of the trigger to the rear of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the furniture in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is lightly worn. There is light erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 7.5/10.

Overall Condition: This firearm retains about 40% of its original metal finish. The finish shows extensive finish loss, edge wear, minor dings, and scattered scratches. The markings are clear and complete. The screw heads show light tooling and retain turnable slots. Overall, this firearm rates in Good condition.

Our Assessment: This Finnish VKT Jalkavaenkivaari M39 was manufactured in 1942 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic firearm. Produced by Valtion Kivaaritehdas during World War II, the M39 represents the ultimate Finnish refinement of the Mosin-Nagant service rifle. Incorporating a heavier barrel, improved sights, redesigned stock, and enhanced trigger, the M39 earned an outstanding reputation for accuracy, durability, and battlefield performance. Wartime VKT-produced examples are especially desirable as they were manufactured during Finland's Continuation War against the Soviet Union.

Chambered in 7.62x54R with a 27 inch barrel, the M39 combines the proven Mosin-Nagant action with the exceptional craftsmanship for which Finnish arsenals became famous. The rifle is widely regarded as one of the finest military bolt-action rifles ever built on the Mosin platform. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 7.5 out of 10, indicating moderate wear with good, visible rifling remaining. The action functions correctly.
