Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a v-notch dovetailed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, straight wrist grip,12-rib forend, and a smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate has light scrub marks under the current finish. The furniture shows pressure dings, drag lines, and surface scratches. The LOP measures 12.75" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The heel of the stock and the left side of the wrist have a small chips taken off. There are no cracks. The furniture rates in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is grey and the rifling is worn. There is mild pitting throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 4/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its nonoriginal metal finish. The finish shows infrequent surface scratches and visible scrub marks under the current finish. The screw heads show little to no tooling and retain turnable slots. One of the lower tang screws is missing. The markings are fairly clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Third Model 1890 was manufactured in 1911 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester, the Model 1890 was John Browning's highly successful slide-action rimfire design and remained in production for decades. The Third Model variation represents the later refinements made during the rifle’s long service life.

Chambered in .22 WRF with a 24 inch barrel, this rifle reflects one of the less commonly encountered chamberings for the Model 1890. The .22 Winchester Rimfire cartridge offered improved performance over earlier rimfire offerings during its era. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 4 out of 10, showing significant wear consistent with age and use. The action functions correctly.

This rifle retains approximately 98% of its nonoriginal metal finish, presenting a clean and cohesive appearance following refinishing. The refinished furniture rates in Good condition with visible handling wear. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition and stands as a representative 1911 Winchester Third Model 1890 in .22 WRF with strong exterior presentation and worn bore.
