Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation v-notch screwed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, straight wrist grip,12-rib forend, and a smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate has heavy freckling. The furniture shows pressure dings, drag lines, and surface scratches. The LOP measures 12.75" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is grey and the rifling is fairly worn. There is mild erosion throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 65% of its original metal finish. The finish shows edge wear, surface scratches, spots of oxidation, patina, and operational marks. The screw heads show little to no tooling and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Second Model 1890 was manufactured in 1904 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester, the Model 1890 was John Browning's first successful pump-action rimfire rifle and quickly became a staple in galleries and small game fields across America. The Second Model variation reflects refinements made during the early production years of this long-running design.

Chambered in .22 Short with a 24 inch barrel, this rifle retains the classic gallery configuration that made the Model 1890 so popular in the early 20th century. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 6 out of 10, showing moderate wear consistent with age and use. The action functions correctly.
