Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation u-notch screwed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is a custom aftermarket replacement. The furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, checkered semi-pistol grip,12-rib forend, and a smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate has faint handling wear. The furniture shows no notable blemishes. The LOP measures 13" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Refinished receiver

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. There is light erosion at the muzzle end of the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 70% of it's current finish. The receiver only shows light edge wear and some minor scratches. The barrel and magazine tube shows, edge wear, freckling, patina, and thinning. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus condition as configured.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This custom Winchester Third Model 1890 Deluxe Grade was manufactured in 1919 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester, the Model 1890 is one of John M. Browning's most successful slide-action rimfire designs and became one of the premier gallery and small game rifles of the early 20th century.

Chambered in .22 WRF with a 24 inch barrel, this rifle is chambered for one of Winchester's classic rimfire hunting cartridges. The .22 Winchester Rim Fire provided increased power over the .22 Long Rifle and was especially popular for small game hunting during the first half of the 20th century. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9 out of 10, indicating strong internal condition with well-defined rifling. The action functions correctly.

The furniture is a custom aftermarket replacement and rates in Excellent condition with minimal visible wear. This rifle retains approximately 70% of its current finish, and the receiver has been refinished. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus condition as configured and stands as an attractive custom Winchester Model 1890 built around one of the finest slide-action rimfire actions ever produced.
