Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded beaded blade dovetailed to a serrated ramped base, fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch elevator sight dovetailed to the barrel. The top of the receiver is drilled, tapped, and filled.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb, and an black plastic Winchester buttplate. On the right side of the buttstock, there is a Chevrolet Medallion inlaid into it. The medallion has the Chevy Emblem in the middle, and is marked "1985 CHEVY OUTDOORSMAN, WINCHESTER". The checkering is sharp with faint peak wear. There are no chips or cracks. There are no notable signs of wear or use on the stocks. Overall, the stocks are in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the barrel. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish is strong and complete throughout. There is little to no operational or handling wear. The screw heads are sharp, and the pins are unmarred. The markings are clear and legible. Overall, this rifle is in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The rifle uses a rebounding hammer and lever safety. The trigger pull is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 94AE carried the classic Model 94 into the optics era, using Winchester's Angle Eject system while retaining the handling qualities that made the .30-30 carbine an American hunting standard. In 1985, Chevrolet and Winchester joined forces for the unusual Chevy Outdoorsman promotion, with this special Model 94AE XTR offered in connection with the purchase of the corresponding Chevrolet Outdoorsman package. The distinguishing feature is the Chevrolet/Winchester medallion inset into the buttstock, giving these rifles crossover appeal to Winchester, Chevrolet, and vintage automotive advertising collectors.

This example is particularly attractive, retaining about 99% of its original blue finish with Excellent stocks, a bright 10/10 bore, and proper functioning mechanics. The Chevrolet medallion remains prominently displayed in the right side of the walnut buttstock, while the factory box and paperwork add considerably to the completeness of a promotional firearm such as this. Though it does not come with the rest of its promotional package, with its excellent condition, original finish, factory box, and unmistakable connection to one of the more memorable automotive/firearms promotions of the 1980s, this is a scarce and distinctive Model 94 variant that belongs equally well in an advanced Winchester or Chevrolet collection.
