Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded beaded blade dovetailed to a serrated base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch adjustable for elevation dovetailed to the barrel. The top of the receiver is grooved for an optic (none present).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with a straight wrist, straight comb, Winchester checkered hard rubber buttplate, and barrel band on the forend. The checkering shows very light wear on some of the peaks. The buttplate shows very light wear on the edges. The wood shows light wear with a few pressure dings and very faint surface blemishes. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13.5" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stocks rate in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with faint fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The markings are clear. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.

Our Assessment: This is an exceptional example of Winchester's premium rimfire lever action, retaining approximately 99 percent of its original finish. The blued metal surfaces are deep and even, showing only the faintest signs of handling, and the XTR grade wood exhibits the higher polish, checkering, and a refined appearance that set these rifles apart from standard production models. All major components are matching numbered parts, adding to the rifle’s overall desirability and correctness.

Mechanically, the rifle is outstanding. The bore rates 9.5 out of 10 with sharp rifling and excellent brightness, indicating very limited use. The action functions correctly and cycles with the smooth, precise lever throw that made the 9422 series one of the finest rimfire lever guns ever produced. Balance and handling are excellent, with the 20 inch barrel providing a classic sporting profile and ideal weight distribution.

As a late production 9422M XTR in near new condition, this rifle represents the high point of Winchester's modern rimfire craftsmanship. These rifles have earned a strong following among collectors and shooters alike, and examples in this level of condition are increasingly difficult to find.
