Sights/Optics: There are currently no front or rear sights. A CenterPoint 4-16x40mm AOIR illuminated reticle scope is mounted atop the receiver. The illuminated reticle functions correctly, the glass is clear, and the scope rates in Very Good condition.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is one piece wood with a fluted straight comb, checkered semi-pistol grip, checkered schnabel forend, and a smooth synthetic Winchester buttpad. The buttpad has minimal handling wear. The furniture shows a couple very small pressure dings. There is a larger, more notable pressure ding on the left side of the flute in the comb. The LOP measures 13.5" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Fine condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with stubborn fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The only notable blemish is some residue on the finish where a previous scope base was mounted. The screw heads are unmarred and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 70 XTR Featherweight was manufactured in 1985 and represents one of the more desirable hunting configurations of the post-1964 Model 70 line. Produced by Winchester, the XTR Featherweight combined enhanced finish quality with a lighter barrel contour and trim stock dimensions, creating an elegant and highly portable hunting rifle. Chambering in .280 Remington further adds to its appeal, as the cartridge has long been respected by for its versatility and performance.

Chambered in .280 Remington with a 22 inch barrel, this rifle offers excellent ballistic performance for a wide range of North American game.
