Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number “56294.” The barrel is marked “WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL” and “.351 CAL.” Additional manufacturer and patent markings are present on the barrel below the rear sight.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed blade. The rear sight is an adjustable semi-buckhorn style.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The rifle features a smooth walnut stock and forend. The stock has a straight grip and a steel buttplate. The length of pull measures 14 1/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The wood shows scattered light handling marks, scratches, and a few shallow dings, but no cracks or chips are observed. The stock rates in about Very Good condition overall.

Magazine Quantity & Condition: One detachable box magazine is included. It is marked “.351 CAL” and shows heavy oxidation and pitting on the floorplate. The body of the magazine retains a more uniform finish with scattered wear. It rates in Fair to Good condition overall.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, and the rifling is sharp. There is no notable erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its original finish. The balance of the finish shows light operational wear, particularly on the high edges, takedown areas, and muzzle. There are minor surface scratches and thinning along the receiver and magazine well. The metal shows light oxidation in isolated spots, particularly around contact areas. The screw heads are sharp, and all markings are clear and legible. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good to Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The takedown system is intact and locks up solidly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment:The Winchester Model 1907 stands as a milestone in the evolution of semi-automatic rifles. Introduced at a time when most shooters were still relying on bolt-action and lever-action arms, the 1907 brought rapid-fire capability to civilians, law enforcement, and select military applications. Chambered in the hard-hitting .351 Winchester Self-Loading cartridge, this rifle offered impressive firepower in a compact, easy-to-handle package. With its sturdy blowback action and detachable box magazine, it was a favorite among prison guards, police departments, and security services, especially during the interwar years and into the 1950s.

This particular rifle, made in 1955, represents the end of the production era for the 1907 and is a fine example of Winchester's craftsmanship. The blued finish is well preserved, the bore is clean and sharp, and the original walnut furniture retains classic appeal. The later models are characterized by more durable, thick stocks and improved charging plunger with a finger-hook. While the included magazine shows notable oxidation and pitting on the floorplate, it remains functional and original to the platform. These rifles were known for their reliability and were used in demanding roles where failure was not an option.
