Sights/Optics: The front sight is a Marbles brass beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a U-notch screwed into the barrel. 

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are wood, the buttstock has a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, and checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. The buttplate shows moderate wear and most of the checkering is fairly worn. The furniture shows moderate wear with pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches throughout. The LOP measures 12 3/4" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There is a small crack starting at the lower tang. There is a small chip taken from the lower left side of the buttstock and another on the right side of the forend. This furniture rates in about Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is grey and the rifling is worn. There is light erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 35% of its finish. The bluing has mostly worn off or turned to patina while much of the nickel remains. The finish shows scattered dings, scuffs, and scratches. The screw heads are moderately tooled and retain strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: A scarce and visually distinctive variation of the Expert Grade line, this Model 1906 features the desirable half-nickel finish, originally applied with a nickel-plated receiver and blued barrel/magazine tube assembly. Even with age and service wear, the rifle retains about 30% of its original finish, giving it the unmistakable two-tone, early-20th-century Winchester aesthetic. The enhanced Expert Grade stock contouring and cleaner wood lines remain evident, adding refinement to the already charismatic 1906 silhouette.

Manufactured in 1919, this rifle comes from the early post-WWI period when Winchester's pump-action .22s dominated the American small-bore market. The Model 1906's ability to chamber .22 Short, Long, and LR made it exceptionally versatile in a time of fluctuating ammunition supply. The Expert Grade designation elevated the rifle aesthetically, while the half-nickel finish added a premium, eye-catching appearance, rarely ordered in comparison to standard finishes. Examples like this, mechanically sound, retaining their original plating, and maintaining matching parts, stand today as evocative representatives of Winchester's craftsmanship during the golden age of early rimfire slide-actions.
