Sights/Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed into the barrel, the rear of the blade has been filed/polished bright. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation u-notch screwed in to the barrel just ahead of the receiver. The top tang is drilled and tapped with a folding Lyman tang sight installed, adjustable for elevation

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The rifle has a two-piece Expert Grade wood stock set, with a smooth semi-pistol grip and contoured forearm, as well as a checkered black Winchester buttplate. The wood shows light handling wear, dings, and a few blemishes in the finish. Most notably are a ding on the left side of the cheekrest and another on the bottom of the forend. The LOP measures 12.75" from the front of the trigger to the rear of the buttplate. The plate has minor wear, mostly at the heel with well defined checkering. There are no cracks or chips. The stock rates in about Very Good condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some stubborn fouling. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This firearm retains about 75% of its metal finish. The balance of finish shows scattered finish wear on the barrel and freckling on the receiver. There are some scuffs on the receiver flats. A few of the screw heads show light tooling. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this firearm rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1906, also known simply as the Model 06, was one of Winchester's most successful early pump-action rimfire rifles. It was designed to handle .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle cartridges, making it extremely versatile for plinking, small game, and training. The takedown feature was an added bonus, allowing easy transport and maintenance.

This Expert Grade example, manufactured in 1919, has survived more than a century with much of its original blue finish intact. Its contoured slide handle, compact 20" barrel, and classic lines make it both a shooter and a collectible. For those who appreciate Winchester pre-war rimfires, this is a solid and desirable C&R piece that still has plenty of life left in it.
