Sights/Optics: The front sight is a Marble 2-S brass beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a folding Lyman peep sight screwed into the tang. The original rear sight has been removed and filled with a dovetail protector.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The rifle has a two-piece wood stock set, with a smooth semi-pistol grip and Expert Grade forearm, as well as a checkered black Winchester buttplate. The buttplate shows very light wear and fits flush with the stock. The wood shows moderate wear with some dings and scuffs. The forend shows most of the wear with a few scuffs mostly on the left side. The buttstocks most notable damage is two nicks taken out of the bottom of the pistol grip. The LOP measures 12.75" from the front of the trigger to the rear of the plate. There are no cracks. The stock rates in Good-plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There are a few spots of minor erosion in the bore, mostly at the muzzle-end. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This firearm retains about 70% of its metal finish. The balance of finish shows moderate wear with finish loss on the barrel, primarily over the slide handle. There are some scuffs, scratches, and freckling on the receiver. The screw heads are mostly sharp, a couple show light tooling. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this firearm rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1906 Expert Grade, often called the Model 06. Chambered for .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle, it quickly became a favorite for small-game hunting, plinking, and training new shooters. Produced until 1932, it remains one of the classic early American pump-action .22 rifles.

This example, manufactured in 1920, retains about 70% of its original blue, with a solid 9/10 bore and smooth mechanics. With its 20" barrel, Expert Grade forearm, and classic Winchester lines, this rifle represents both a collectible piece of early 20th-century rimfire history and a still-usable small-bore pump rifle. As a C&R-eligible firearm, it appeals to both collectors of Winchester rimfires and those who simply appreciate the craftsmanship of pre-war American sporting arms.
