Sights/Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation V-notch screwed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished stocks are wood, the buttstock has a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, and checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. The buttplate shows faint signs of wear. There is a thin, filled crack in the bottom of the grip behind the bottom tang. The furniture otherwise shows very light wear. The LOP measures 12 3/4" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips. This furniture rates in about Fine condition.

Finish Originality: Professionally Restored

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The barrel finish shows minimal wear. The magazine tube shows light operational wear and a very small spot of oxidation on the left side just above the action bar. The receiver finish shows minimal wear other than a small mark on the left flat near the middle and a small spot of oxidation atop the action. The screw heads are unmarred and retain strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition as restored.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: A beautifully restored example of Winchester’s enhanced-wood Expert Grade 1906, this rifle presents with a striking, nearly full-coverage refinish that highlights the clean lines and classic slide-action profile of the model. The restoration work has returned the rifle to an elegant, showroom-like presence: approximately 99% of the non-original blue finish remains, and the Expert Grade stock contours give the rifle the poised, upper-tier sporting look these variants were known for. The rifle retains matching-numbered parts, a desirable feature for collectors even on restored examples, ensuring mechanical cohesion and historical continuity.

Built in 1919, this rifle comes from the early interwar period when Winchester pump-action rimfires were among the most widely used small-bore rifles in America. The Expert Grade option provided improved stock work and a more polished presentation, appealing to shooters who wanted a refined variant of a practical, all-purpose rimfire. Professionally restored examples like this preserve the beauty of Winchester's early sporting lines while offering a condition level rarely encountered in untouched rifles more than a century old.
